FS: What magazine is this?

Backwash zine.

FS: Oh, is this going to be the weird one?

Maybe.

FS: We heard there might be some unusual questions. About sluts, ho's.

Have you considered pimping at all?

FS: My pimp hand is strong.

As strong as Snoop Dogg's? Really?

FS: Yes, it is true.

[Ming has just joined the interview.]

Hey Ming, we're talkin' about pimps and ho's right now. How's your pimp hand?

Ming: Huh? It's fine.

How's the strength of your pimp hand?

Ming: I got a wad in my pocket, I'm doing alright.

FS: Your pimp hand is either strong or weak.

Or it could be in the middle Ñ moderate.

Ming: My pimp hand is moderate.

Ever wonder how the Incredible Hulk shopped for clothes?

FS: I just figured they gave him clothes for the show.

But when he got angry, he instantly ruined his pants and lost his shoes.

Ming: Did his cock swell with the rest of his body?

FS: Yeah, that'd be interesting to know if he had a Hulk cock. "I'll use my Hulk cock on you!" He's screwing his girlfriend and she mentions someone else's name and all of a sudden he's the Hulk and he splits her in two. "My Hulk cock will get you!"

So I understand you guys met at a party where Ming was spinning trip hop, and FS asked what the fuck you were playing. Did you find that rude? Did fisticuffs ensue?

Ming: No. I was invited to spin at a party where I knew no one.

FS: It was a New York apartment. So he had his turntables set up in this apartment, and it's fuckin' small, no one knows him, everybody's like, "Who the fuck is this?" And we were on shrooms and it was pretty fuckin' bizarre.

Ming: I was just buggin' them out basically. That was our first meeting. He thought I was a fuckin' crazy guy playing this fucked up music.

FS: I don't think we had words, I don't think that's what happened. That was back when he had a Kenny G haircut.

How'd that work out for ya?

FS: He cut it off. That's why he has a bald head now.

And what's your hair like?

FS: Mine's more Rico Suave. The lean is more on the suave.

Do you know what Gerardo is doing now?

FS: Gerardo? I don't know what that guy's doing.

How did your Junkyard style come about?

FS: The style is just what we do. We started calling it Junkyard, we coined the phrase and that's that.

Ming: I'd been producing hip hop for awhile before I got into drum'n'bass. He had been doing drum'n'bass. And when we got together we were doing any kind of electrtonic music from a hip hop perspective, meaning we were willing to put anything into the music. We weren't worried about stereotypes Ñ don't put this in, or don't use this kick or snare. We were putting whatever the fuck we wanted in there.

What do you think your impact has been on the drum'n'bass scene?

Ming: I think people didn't know how to respond to our style of drum'n'bass. I think now a lot of people are kind of imitating what we're doing. I don't want to mention a compilation album in particular, but a lot of tracks on the album are stuff we were doing a year and a half ago. I think we're a strong point for the American drum'n'bass scene. I think that we're definitely making a mark somewhere. Whether it's good or bad I don't know. ¥

Coming soon from Ming & FS: Sounds of the Junkyard mixed cd -- the first of the junkyard style of mixed cds -- and a full-length drum'n'bass album.
